An Individual Intensive for the Betrayed Partner

Your pain is real. Your healing can begin on your own terms.

When a partner’s betrayal — an affair, hidden compulsive sexual behavior, or long-running deception — upends your world, the wound is a genuine trauma. You may feel hypervigilant, unable to stop the intrusive thoughts, and unsure what was ever real. The Betrayal Trauma Intensive is a private, one-on-one weekend focused entirely on you: your safety, your reality, and your recovery — whatever you decide about the relationship. Guided by a CSAT-trained, trauma-informed clinician.

“You are a trauma survivor, not a codependent. Your reaction is a normal response to a real injury — and your healing does not have to wait on anyone else.”

— The betrayal-trauma approach at LifeWorks Recovery

Who This Intensive Is For

This private, one-on-one intensive is for the betrayed partner who needs focused, trauma-informed time to heal — on their own timeline.

After Discovery

For partners reeling from discovering an affair, compulsive sexual behavior, or hidden deception.

Doubting Reality

For those left questioning what was real after gaslighting, secrecy, and broken trust.

Trauma Symptoms

For partners carrying hypervigilance, intrusive images, anxiety, or emotional flooding.

Your Own Healing

For anyone who needs support focused on themselves — not only the couple’s work.

What We Work On

Each intensive is shaped around you and your pace. Common areas of focus include:

Safety & Stabilization

Settling the nervous system first — grounding, the Window of Tolerance, and tools to move out of panic and shutdown.

Reality-Validation

Naming what happened clearly, so you stop doubting your own perceptions. We help undo the effects of gaslighting.

Trauma Processing

Gently working through the intrusive images and painful moments so they loosen their grip on the present.

Boundaries & Safety Plan

Clarifying what you need to feel safe — transparency, space, and non-negotiables — and how to ask for it.

Reconnecting With You

Rebuilding self-trust, self-worth, and the parts of your life the betrayal put on hold.

Support & Aftercare

A plan for ongoing support — individual counseling, groups like S-Anon or a betrayal-trauma group, and community.

A Trauma-Informed Frame

Betrayal is not only a relational event — it is a nervous-system event. The body keeps the score. Our approach honors the specialized betrayal-trauma field: you are treated as a trauma survivor, not a codependent (Steffens & Means / APSATS). We draw on trauma and neurobiology — the Window of Tolerance (Siegel), the body-based understanding of trauma (van der Kolk), the three-stage arc of Safety → Remembrance & Mourning → Reconnection (Herman), and nervous-system safety (Porges) — integrated into LifeWorks’ own ANCHOR Model™. For you, the work centers on Attune & Stabilize and Comfort the Impact: steadying the body, then letting your pain be fully heard and validated.

What the Weekend Looks Like

The Betrayal Trauma Intensive is usually scheduled across Friday evening, Saturday, and Sunday for a total of 16 or 20 hours, customized to you.

Friday Evening

Safety First

We settle in, calm the nervous system, and reframe betrayal trauma — what it is, why you feel the way you do, and that it’s a normal response.

Saturday

Validate & Process

Reality-validation and gentle trauma processing — letting the pain be heard, undoing gaslighting, and easing the grip of intrusive thoughts.

Sunday

Boundaries & Forward

Clarifying boundaries and a safety plan, reconnecting with yourself, and building an aftercare plan for continued support.

16-Hour or 20-Hour

Set together at your brief, free upfront consultation.

16-hour intensive — a focused individual format (Fri evening + full Saturday + half Sunday).
20-hour intensive — when there’s a heavier trauma load or more to process, and deeper work is warranted.

Investment

Priced per individual on the same basis as our other intensives. Every intensive begins with a brief, free consultation that sets your exact scope.

16-Hour Intensive

from $3,450

Fri evening + full Saturday + half Sunday, per individual.

20-Hour Intensive

from $4,250

Fri evening + full Saturday + full Sunday, per individual.

Includes your private space in Addison, materials, and refreshments throughout. Lodging and dining are nearby (not included). Final scope is set at your brief upfront consultation.

Common Questions

Am I “codependent” for being this hurt?

No. Your pain is a normal, healthy response to a real betrayal. This work treats you as a trauma survivor and validates your reality — it doesn’t pathologize it.

Do I have to decide about my relationship first?

Not at all. This intensive is about your healing, whatever you decide. Many partners find clarity comes more easily once they feel steadier.

How is this different from the Safe Harbor Intensive?

Safe Harbor is a couple’s intensive (both partners). This one is individual — focused entirely on your own healing. You can do either, or both.

Does my partner have to be in recovery?

No. Your healing doesn’t depend on their choices. If they’re ready, the individual Sex Addiction Intensive and couple’s work can run alongside.

Is it confidential?

Yes. This is a private, one-on-one intensive in a discreet space in Addison.
